On Nov. 8, a 20-year-old man was sentenced in a case connected to the robbery of a KFC in South Carolina. He was facing charges of possession of a stolen gun, first degree burglary, seven counts of possessing a weapon during a violent crime, eight counts of kidnapping, eight counts of armed robbery and murder. He may serve 50 years in prison.
A married couple living in Kershaw County was taken into custody on Oct. 19 on murder charges. The case involves a 34-year-old man who disappeared in December 2016. The last time the man was seen, he was leaving a friend's house. The victim's disappearance was reported on Jan. 4, 2017, after he failed to go to work.
The owner of a South Carolina restaurant chain has been charged with criminal sexual conduct and assault and battery for allegedly forcing an employee to have sex with him. The incidents reportedly occurred in July 2016 and July 2018.
A 35-year-old South Carolina man faces up to 10 years in a federal prison after admitting that he attempted to purchase a bomb as part of a plot to kill two of his former co-workers. His guilty plea was entered during a Sept. 14 change of plea hearing and announced by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of South Carolina. The Easley resident, who will learn his fate after a federal judge reviews the case, has been held without bail since being taken into custody in March.
Police in South Carolina have reported that a suspect has been taken into custody in connection with a fatal shooting in York County on the morning of Aug. 12, but they have not revealed what led them to believe that the 32-year-old Connecticut man was the shooter. Prosecutors also failed to introduce any evidence linking the man with the homicide he allegedly committed during his Aug. 17 arraignment hearing. The man has been charged with murder and weapons possession and faces a custodial sentence of between 30 years and life if convicted.
Police have yet to release the names of the victims in a double homicide that allegedly involved stolen heroin and fentanyl. Investigators reported that one of the four suspects arrested in the case had been trying to recover his stolen drugs.
Authorities arrested a 43-year-old female suspect on June 21 for allegedly being involved in a shooting on US-521 in Westville that left another woman dead. The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office confirmed that deputies took the suspect into custody. In the company of her attorneys, she arrived at the Kershaw County Detention Center. She was subsequently charged with the murder of a 54-year-old woman.
Law enforcement officers in South Carolina reported that a 19-year-old man shot and killed a 31-year-old man after the two argued while playing video games. The incident happened at a Rodeway Inn in Charleston on April 27.
