Man charged with murder of college student

On Behalf of | Apr 3, 2019 | Violent Crimes |

A 24-year-old man was charged with the death of a 21-year-old college student in South Carolina. The woman was reportedly at the Bird Dog bar on the night of March 29 when she hailed a ride from Uber after getting separated from her friends. When a black Chevy Impala arrived, the woman got into the vehicle thinking it was her ride.

Authorities say that the woman’s body was disposed of in a wooded area. The body was found in a rural area by hunters, and it was said to be in a spot that would have been difficult to access without knowledge of the area.

Police later found the vehicle being driven by the man who was charged with her death. When police found the vehicle, they conducted a traffic stop. Although the man reportedly attempted to flee, he was later apprehended by police. Testing revealed that blood inside of the vehicle matched that of the man police took into custody.

A criminal conviction for any type of a crime could result in an individual being sent to prison for many years. It may also result in spending time on probation or being required to pay a fine. Individuals who are charged with a crime are generally entitled to have an attorney help with their defense.

An attorney may use a variety of strategies to help an individual obtain a favorable sentence in his or her case. For instance, it may be possible to assert that an individual committed a crime but that it was done in self-defense. It may also be possible to argue that an individual was mistaken for someone else or that evidence was somehow tampered with or obtained improperly. This may be enough for a charge to be reduced or dismissed.
