2 charged with killing Greenville County man

On Behalf of | Jan 10, 2019 | Violent Crimes |

On Jan. 4, South Carolina authorities announced that two men have been charged with the murder of a Greenville County man in December. The decedent’s body was reportedly found beside railroad tracks in Taylors.

According to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, the defendants, ages 30 and 32, have been charged with murder, kidnapping, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and criminal conspiracy. Though the investigation is ongoing, authorities believe one of the defendants knew the victim and both defendants were involved in the plot to take his life.

The decedent’s body was discovered close to railroad tracks in the area of Chick Springs Road and Mitchell Drive. He was the brother of a man who worked as a press secretary under former South Carolina Gov. Carroll Campbell and was also a member of the media affairs team for the George W. Bush presidential administration. The defendants are being held without bond at the Greenville County Detention Center. During a Jan. 5 bond hearing, the 30-year-old defendant claimed he was in another county on the night of the alleged murder.

Violent crimes charges, such as murder and homicide, are very serious and often carry severe penalties. However, all defendants are innocent until proven guilty and have the right to mount a vigorous defense against the allegations. A criminal defense attorney could scrutinize the evidence and challenge the prosecution’s version of events, which could cause the charges to be dismissed. Legal counsel could also attempt to arrange a plea deal that reduces the charges, which could help the defendant obtain a lighter sentence.
